According to NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A New York State Department of Corrections officer has been suspended without pay and is facing termination from his position at an upstate prison, after he mocked the victims of the Tops supermarket shooting massacre.

Gregory Foster II, who has worked at the Attica Correctional Facility since 1997, posted an image of the exterior of a Tops store along with “text making a crass reference to the aftermath of the shooting,” reported WKBW, which did not publish the post “because it is insensitive to the victims and their families.”

Above the Facebook post, according to the report, the caption reads “Too soon? This should weed out some FB friends,” followed by a laughing emoji.

“The comments made by this correction officer are despicable, stand in violation of multiple Department rules, and will not be tolerated,” the department said in a statement. “This vile posting does not represent the morals and values of the thousands of staff members in the Department.”

The department said it seek Foster’s termination and he may face criminal prosecution. Attica is located less than an hour east of Buffalo.

According to WKBW, ten people had clicked the laughing or thumbs-up emoji.
