Sixers fans seem to favor Morey opting for an all-out pursuit of Lillard. The combination of Ben Simmons’ playoff regression and the prospect of pairing Lillard with MVP runner-up Embiid has the Philly faithful practically drooling at the possibility of a two-man game with that duo — especially in the wake of Philadelphia’s disappointing second-round playoff exit, despite home-court advantage throughout the Eastern Conference playoffs.
There would be plenty of competition for Lillard, with the New York Knicks, Golden State Warriors and Miami Heat among the clubs vying for him.
Acquiring Lillard, a starter on the U.S. Olympic Team, would make the Sixers a more legitimate championship contender, thereby increasing the pressure on Embiid, Lillard and their teammates, as well as coach Doc Rivers and Morey, to win it all.
That might not be a bad thing.
