From the beginning of his NFL career, O’Cyrus Torrence, drafted out of the University of Florida in 2023, has made his mark on the Bills’ offensive line. Torrence took on a starting role in his rookie year and quickly proved himself to be reliable on the line as he protects Josh Allen and opens lanes for the running backs. In his first two seasons with Buffalo, he only allowed for three sacks. That, along with earning a starting role as well as maintaining that role during his rookie season, shows the Bills’ trust in him. This sort of performance raises the question of whether the Bills should extend his contract.
Torrence’s impact on the Bills started in 2023. Though his position does not accumulate stats like touchdowns or interceptions, he and other offensive guards are essential for their team’s success. Torrence’s strength and agility help the Bills’ offensive line stand firm against pass rushers. No matter if he is giving Allen more time in the pocket or making a lane for James Cook, Torrence helps the offense continue to push down the field.
Moreover, Torrence’s spectacular performance shows that he is more than just a rookie starter, but rather a core asset of the Bills’ successful offensive line. His ability to only give up three sacks in two seasons shows just how capable he is of protecting Allen, the MVP and one of the most valuable quarterbacks in the NFL. It is a necessity that Allen has this level of protection, as it aids in a successful play and avoids the risk injuries. Given the Bills’ consecutive achievements, the question of extending Torrence’s contract naturally rises.
Torrence has proven himself not just as a football player, but also as a Buffalo Bill. Being a reliable player and protecting a star quarterback heavily contributes to the Bills’ accomplishments. Extending his contract would secure the team with a strong, key player which almost guarantees stability on the offensive line for years to come.
