Lakers sign Joel Ayayi, Austin Reaves to two-way contracts

After including the No. 22 overall pick in a blockbuster trade for Washington Wizards guard Russell Westbrook, the Los Angeles Lakers did not have a pick in the 2021 NBA draft.

Instead of making a trade to jump back into the draft, the Lakers decided to stand pat and wait for the undrafted pool of free agents to make their moves.

Once the Milwaukee Bucks selected at No. 60 overall, teams received the go-ahead to start finalizing deals for two-way rookies, training camp deals, Summer League deals and Exhibit 10 contracts.

The Lakers quickly scooped two two-way players after the draft: Joel Ayayi of Gonzaga and Austin Reaves of Oklahoma, according to Adrian Wojnarowski and Dave McMenamin of ESPN.

Gonzaga’s Joel Ayayi has agreed to a two-way contract with the Lakers, source tells ESPN.
