Even though Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier are enemies on the court, and are currently facing off in the WNBA finals, they are also business partners and co-founders of the 3-on-3 women’s basketball league Unrivaled.
Unrivaled and TNT Sports have agreed on a media deal, below is an excerpt from the media release made public on Wednesday.
“TNT Sports and professional women’s basketball league Unrivaled have reached a multi-year media rights partnership to exclusively present live game coverage on TNT and truTV – along with all games being streamed on Max – beginning with the league’s inaugural season. The agreement will feature more than 45 primetime regular season matchups three nights a week across TNT Sports platforms, with twice-weekly games on TNT as the lead network on Mondays and Fridays and additional broadcasts on truTV on Saturdays. Unrivaled live game action will tip off January 17, 2025.” – Warner Bros. Discovery
Unrivaled aims to be a home for the WNBA’s top players in the offseason, as well as take care of their players. A league for athletes, by athletes. The salaries for the new league will be the highest average in women’s sports and in the six figures. The pay alone is groundbreaking for players who often have to play overseas in the offseason to earn a fraction of what they make in the WNBA’s regular season.
The league will have a two month season, and 30 league players divided onto six teams. Many of the players have equity in the league as well, exemplifying to the league’s commitment to it’s players.
